The AD and Coach P are looking at some possible uniform ideas.  They want something that will stand the test of time.  What comes to mind for me is the Washington Huskies.

Purple jerseys-no stripes, with numbers on the sleeves, instead of on top of the shoulder.  Go back to the old gold or vegas gold pants, to get back to the true purple and gold of WIU.  Then bring back the old anchor and bulldog, without the WIU Leathernecks part for the helmet or shoulder. This will never happen because WIU does not use it as their logo.   The JMU one is tough, the deeper purple and gold looks better.   I also like the "W" of the late 70's to 83 on the helmet but then that's too much like Washington.

Well, i have already contacted Dr. Tim about this issue and his response was:

"we have purchased new uniforms, clearly needed since we have been using these same uniforms, with patch-work, for almost 15 years.  Yes, times have changed and the styles have change, and the interests of 18 year olds have changed.  We will have lots of traditional purple.  Rest assured that Coach Patterson is as traditional as one can be........further, don't worry, we will not look like the University of Oregon.  However, we are moving away from the old gold or dirty gold.  We will move toward the gold which is consistent with the University's style and color manuals."

Although he was very nice to respond i do question him on a few things. WIU has been using the same style for 20 years not the same jerseys. Yes, styles have changed but as we all see in the sports world, tradition is still important. Who lets 18 year olds pick uni's anyway? Do recruits pick a school based on the uniform style? And if that is the case, we do not want them! Do you think schools like Penn State & ND for example will alter tradition to accommodate a recruit? THE SCHOOL COLORS ACCORDING TO WIU HISTORICAL INFO(btw, found on the website) IS PURPLE AND OLD GOLD, not yellow gold.

I feel the purple and yellow gold look very HIGH SCHOOL-ISH, the metallic OLD GOLD looks very professional and serious w/ the purple. I'd hate to see the necks looking clown-ish. I too like the old gold pants, they gave a nice contrast to the jerseys. I did not like them with the white jerseys though, the purple pants look much better for away uni's. A great site is on a sunny fall afternoon to see all of that purple huddled together before a game, it is an intimidating look for sure. WIU was also one of only a few schools to sport the name across the jerseys on a regular basis until a few years ago, now it seems everyone does it in some form.

Man, I hate to see tradition be pushed aside so easily to replace the historical OLD GOLD with that blahh yellow. I was disgusted when the Basketball and baseball squads began using yellow gold, the yellow baseball jerseys looked very "garrish". It was nice to see the WBBall still use old gold and softball too, but who knows what the future brings for them....

I will be honest though, I have been in favor of the move to OLD GOLD away jerseys to replace the white. I thought the mens basketball home jerseys a few years ago that were OLD GOLD were the best bball uniforms WIU has ever had, sure beats the clown outfits they wear now.

The old pants were kind of a mustard color but I think a shiny gold would look good.  Hopefully, if they are using the form of yellow that is on the helmet, they use it sparingly.  I guess if they want to appeal to 18 year olds, they can get pants that hang halfway down their *** with purple jocks.  Naaaa, I shouldn't have typed that.  Seriously,  if  Dr. VA and Coach P picked something out, I'm sure it will be classy.  You're right about those B-ball uni's but I can't think of a football team that wears anything other than white away jersey's, except for a few of the teams like LSU who often wear white at home.  Remember the basketball jerseys that had Illinois misspelled for about half of the season?

I have to get off this topic, I read the first line of this post and I feel like a chick.  The uni's will look good if we're winning.

Actually, Georgia Tech and Vandy both have gold football jerseys.

Today I saw really cool baseball uni's, univ of Washington has vested style dull gold/mustard with purple pinstripes.  Really cool look with the purple socks and undershirts to accent.  I believe NIKE did them, I would like to see WIU do this instead of the banana jerseys they have.

I really love what Tim VA has done at WIU but I do question some decisions by whomever.  One that also kinda bothers me is this Hanson rennovation plan.  I read they are now replacing the GA side with metal bleachers, does this mean a concrete foundation with metal benches or the skeleton styled seating?  I sure hope it has a foundation because I personally hate the skeletoned seating like ILState has, it looks again high school-like.  But again, nobody asked me and I am not paying for it so....  But for years it seemed WIU always looked for the cheap way around things and since TVA they have seemed to change the corner, I just hope this Hanson deal is not a cheaper way out because it will bite them in the a** eventually.

Has anyone heard anything lately regarding the new uniforms? Personally I'd like to keep the purple pants/jerseys....and maybe just update them somehow. Possibly ad some gold (not yellow) in places on the jersey.

The helmet works for me as well. UNI copied our helmet, so ours is not quite as original anymore...but I'd still like to keep it.

Purple and Gold!
