Question for current members?

With NDSU and SDSU coming into their first year in the Gateway, what are your realistic thoughts on their first year in the conference? Record? Triumphs? Struggles? I'm a die hard NDSU fan but I won't talk any smack until the BISON get their feet wet and start winning a few in the conference. Until then, good luck to all the teams in 2008 because you'll need it when you play the BISON! (sorry, had to do it)

Most Gateway Schools Not Interested in Playing 12th Game in '08

Evidently, the only Gateway schools that seem really interested in playing a 12th game are InSU (for financial reasons) and WIU.

Here's how I think it will pan out...

1.) UNI
2.) SIU
3.) WIU
4.) YSU
5.) MSU
6.) IlSU
7.) InSU

YSU nearly laid an egg in what would've been a HUGE loss at home to a winless Southern Utah team. WIU was pretty impressive, holding the Bears to their lowest point total since K State, and putting up over 500 yards on the ground. As bad as our defense is, that's still impressive. I think WIU is moreso of a team to reckon with than YSU, and may have a better chance to sneak in as a third Gateway playoff team. Everything else stays the same.

Thoughts?

Coach Raetz has been openly critical of his players lately. Some of the things that he's said recently to the media make me think that it will be at least another 2-3 years before InSU can become competitive in the Gateway. I didn't know that they only brought 47 players with them to the MSU game this past weekend. That's unreal.

I saw that SIU drew over 13K for last weekend's game, but had only drawn about 8K for a game earlier in the year. I know that attendance went up for them once SIU started winning, but has it gone up each year? Has it hit a plateau?

Does Illinois State plan on jumping to FBS?

I've seen ISU's latest renderings for the stadium renovations, and I guess they're looking to increase the stadium's seating capacity to around 25k. It kind of looks to me like ISU might looking to jump up to FBS. It would make sense to stay with the Gateway to maintain the rivalries with SIU, UNI, etc., but I could also see the MAC working out for them, with NIU right there in their back yard. Has anyone heard of have any plans?

SIU has lost a great kicker and running back and other very important seniors this year but we have a great class coming in and the rest of are team coming back. Our team is still young but will be ready for a great season and our quarter back is returning so we are good to go there. Like I said we are young but ready go and hopefully pull off what will be a great 2007 season and make another trip back to the playoffs. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!

Looks like this is WKU's last year in the Gateway.

Its pretty much a forgone conclusion WKU will be playing a Sun Belt schedule
next year. I thought that the Missouri Valley would have extended a offer
to join as a full member but that never happened. The gateway members would
beat a lot of the bottom third of 1A.

To have been apart of the best conference in 1AA has been great.

Is there any schools that any of you think should replace WKU.

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader carried an article indicating that the Gateway Conference is formally inviting South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University to submit informtion in preparation for a possible invitation to join the Gateway. Although the Great West Conference has been a great home, most fans look to the the Gateway Conference as a better fit. What is your reaction?

WKU-IlSU-this is another big match-up, that could go far in determining who wins the Gateway.

That was strange.

If you haven't heard, the 2nd string punter (allegedly) stabbed the 1st string punter in his kicking leg, in hopes of (I guess) winning the starting job.

Kinda reminds one of that old Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding situation.

Anyway, I guess the kicker is in the hospital (but will miss at least one game) and the 2nd string punter was dismissed from the team.

WIU plays Northern Colorado a week from this Saturday.

Hmm .. I wonder if they'll have a punter by then!

Who in the gateway this year has the best shot of knocking off a 1-A oppenent. The gateway has a pretty tough schedule when it comes to playing 1-A teams. WKU plays Georgia...UNI plays Iowa State...SIU plays Indiana...ISU plays Kansas State...YSU plays Penn State. I think either UNI will do it this year or SIU...any comments?

I was surpised by the closeness in the overall voting. I think SIU was the runaway favorite to win it all but this year there is significant balance in the voting.

2006 Gateway Football Television Schedule

A Gateway Football Conference team will be featured on national or regional distribution in 11 of 12 weekends this fall, including six games that are part of the Gateway-produced television package in 2006. In addition to the league's six-game in-house package, two Gateway teams will be featured on ESPNU in non-conference games, while a league game is featured as part of CSTV's "National I-AA Game of the Week" package. Two games this fall will be broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio as part of Sports Byline's I-AA National Radio Game of the Week package.

For the eighth-straight season, the Gateway Football Conference is coordinating an in-house television package. The games will be produced for syndication on over-the-air and cable television stations throughout the Midwest. Each of the six conference-produced games will air live or taped on FSN Midwest and on Fox College Sports.

The league's production company is Metro Sports, a Time Warner-owned outlet located in Kansas City, Mo. The league's 2006 package, plus other national and regional telecasts, is below (additional clearances may be added):
